Good things certainly do grow in Ontario, and when it comes to the nation’s best buds, those good things are growing in Pelham.
Lift & Co. announced winners of the 2018 Canadian Cannabis Awards last Thursday. Vaughan-based CannTrust cleaned up, landing not only awards for top licensed producer and top licensed producer customer service, but also for several products, including top high CBD oil, top balanced oil, top sativa flower, top hybrid flower and top high-CBD flower.
The term “flower” refers to the dried, and most recognizable, form of cannabis as opposed to processed products such as oils and other extracts.
While the company may be headquartered in Vaughan, the cannabis that netted it so many wins was grown in Niagara, specifically at the producer’s perpetual harvest greenhouse on Balfour Road in Pelham.
“Pelham and its surrounding communities have a rich history of agriculture and a wealth of cultivation professionals who are dedicated and passionate about producing the best plants possible,” said facility general manager Michael Camplin.
“The area also provides an excellent climate needed for quality greenhouse production, and room to expand in order to meet national and global demand,” he said.
The specific strains of cannabis to pick up awards in the flower categories are: CannTrust OG Kush, top sativa; CannTrust Blueberry Kush, top hybrid; CannTrust Cannatonic, top high CBD.
CannTrust CEO Peter Aceto said the awards recognition is a boon for the corporation’s team.
“What is so incredible about these awards is they were chosen by consumers,” he said.
The awards come as the producer pushes forward on a planned 63,000-square-metre expansion of its Pelham facilities.
Tweed Farms, which also operates a 31,500-square-metre greenhouse in Niagara-on-the-Lake, earned recognition during the awards ceremony including for producing the top Indica flower and balanced flower.
